Table toppers Gujarat Lions face one of the season’s better performers, the Delhi Daredevils, at one of the bigger grounds we have in the IPL, the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot in game 31 of the IPL2016. Both the teams will do well to provide the kind of entertainment they did in the previous encounter, surely one of the games of the season. At the SCA stadium, Rajkot, we believe the Lions will bounce back from the blip against the Kings and provide another commanding performance. Having said that, they will have to be at their 100 percent best to beat the Daredevils. Follow live IPL cricket scores for today’s match between RCB vs KKR
GJ vs DD Probable PLAYING XI: GUJARAT LIONS - Dwayne Smith, Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik, Ishan Kishan, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, James Faulkner, Praveen Kumar, Dhawal Kulkarni, Shivil Kaushik
DELHI DAREDEVILS - Quinton de Kock, Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, Karun Nair, Sam Billings, Chris Morris, Carlos Brathwaite, Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Shami, Amit Mishra, Zaheer Khan
GJ vs DD Head to Head
The memory of their previous encounter, just last Tuesday, might still be etched in players’ and fans’ minds alike as we witnessed a display of incredibly clean hitting by Chris Morris, a 32 ball 82, littered with 4 fours and 8 sixes at an astonishing strike rate of 256.25 that nearly lifted his team to victory chasing 173 to win. The innings, left his team, heartbreakingly, just one run short of victory. It was another solid performance from the Lions, Dr. Smith and Brendon McCullum, their chief destroyers with the bat, scoring 53 and 60 respectively. The bowlers, except Praveen Kumar and Dhawal Kulkarni, took plenty of stick that day, but their 2 premier seamers walked away with plenty of plaudits with figures of 4 – 0 – 13 – 0 and 4 – 1 – 19 – 13 respectively. (overs, maidens, wickets, runs). Chris Morris, after the game, recalled at his best T20 performance as he had done well with the ball as well.
Eventually, Delhi’s fans, Morris and the management were left to contemplate on ‘what could have been’ on a special night in Delhi.
FORM GUIDE
GUJARAT LIONS:
Last 5 encounters (Most recent – least)
LOSS – To Kings XI Punjab by 23 runs
WIN – Beat Rising Pune Supergiants by 3 wickets
WIN – Beat Delhi Daredevils by 1 run
WIN – Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 wickets
LOSS – To Sunrisers Hyderabad by 10 wickets
It wouldn’t be fair to say that the Gujarat Lions have come off the boil recently, considering the fact that they still sit pretty at the top of the table, however, teams have started exposing a few weaknesses in the side. It is worth noting, that, in their two losses, their batting line up has been exposed. The Lions’ batting is very top heavy and when they don’t fire, the middle order has been found wanting.
DELHI DAREDEVILS:
Last 5 encounters
WIN – Beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs
LOSS – To Gujarat Lions by 1 run
WIN – Beat Mumbai Indians by 10 runs
WIN – Beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 7 wickets
WIN – Beat Kings XI Punjab by 8 wickets
The Daredevils have established themselves as one of the frontrunners this season, sitting in 3rd place in the table, having played only 6 games. The Dravid-Upton think tank is proving to be working again as there seems to be a very positive vibe in the dressing room. Their only loss in the last 5 games, came against the Lions, a game they nearly won. Their bowling line up has fired recently, with Zaheer Khan proving to a very wily skipper. Amit Mishra has fared well, picking up wickets aplenty. One concern will be Quinton de Kock’s form, he has lost his wicket cheaply in the past couple of games. A big boost is the form of the all rounders, Morris and Brathwaite, the latter, very impressive in the previous game.
