Looking to make a comeback into the Indian team through IPL: Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh (R) and Zaheer Khan

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Daredevils’ new recruits, Yuvraj Singh and Zaheer Khan have said that they are looking to use the lucrative T20 league as a platform to make a comeback into the Indian team. The 33-year-old left-hander last played for the country in the World T20 in Bangladesh last year while Zaheer’s last appearance for the nation was during India’s tour to New Zealand at the beginning of last year.

“I am confident of doing well and hope that things get better from here and I make it back into the team. I am in good shape, I have worked very hard and I have had a good domestic season.

"It's been a couple of hard years for me since I have come back from my treatment,” Yuvraj said at the unveiling of the Daredevils’ new jersey.

Enjoying the game again: Zaheer

Speaking at the same event, Zaheer said that he was enjoying the game once again and looking forward to reuniting with former India coach Gary Kirsten at the Delhi setup. Both Zaheer and Yuvraj were an integral part of the team that won the 2011 World Cup with Kirsten as coach.

"I am enjoying playing cricket again. I am taking one step at a time and IPL is definitely the first step.

“I have been away from cricket for a while now, so just looking forward to get back,” he said.

“Gary is a very good coach and we have spent a lot of time together, so I hope that we are able to replicate our success with DD this time around. We know his working style, even he knows what to expect from us. So I hope that we combine well this season to turn it around for Delhi this time around.

"We are up for it. It's a new challenge. There are a lot of new faces this time in DD, so looking forward to it. We hopefully will be able to turn this season around for Delhi,” Zaheer concluded.
