LSG vs RR Highlights, IPL 2024: 3 moments that generated buzz among fans in Match 44 ft. Sandeep Sharma
Rajasthan Royals (RR) completed a convincing seven-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Saturday, April 27, in match number 44 of IPL 2024.
Sanju Samson won the toss for Rajasthan and elected to field first. They were off to a brilliant start, with Trent Boult getting rid of Quinton de Kock in the very first over.
To make matters worse for Lucknow, last match centurion Marcus Stoinis was also dismissed for a duck in the second over off Sandeep Sharma's bowling. Skipper KL Rahul played a captain's knock to steer the ship out of choppy waters for his side.
He was the top performer with the bat for LSG, scoring 76 off 48 with the help of two sixes and eight fours. Deepak Hooda also notched up a fine half-century, mustering 50 in 31 deliveries, including seven fours.
Rahul and Hooda formed a crucial 115-run partnership for the third wicket, helping Lucknow register 196/5 in 20 overs. Sandeep Sharma picked up two wickets while Trent Boult, Avesh Khan, and Ravichandran Ashwin bagged one scalp each.
RR's run chase kicked off with a 60-run opening stand between Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Sanju Samson delivered a blistering knock, remaining unbeaten on 71 in 33.
Dhruv Jurel also completed his half-century, mustering 52* in 34 balls. Yash Thakur, Amit Mishra, and Marcus Stoinis claimed one wicket each. Rajasthan chased down the target in 19 overs with seven wickets in hand.
With this win, Rajasthan now have eight wins from nine games and continue to be the table-toppers of IPL 2024. Lucknow, on the other hand, are fourth in the standings, having won five out of their first nine fixtures.
Here, we take a look at three moments from the LSG vs RR match that generated buzz among the fans.
Sandeep Sharma's peach of a delivery to send Marcus Stoinis packing
RR pacer Sandeep Sharma bowled a tidy spell against LSG. The right-arm pacer dished out a stunning delivery to dismiss the danger man, Marcus Stoinis, for a duck.
It was a full delivery that swung into the batter. Stoinis was undone by the movement and was comprehensively beaten, with the ball crashing onto the stumps. The Australian all-rounder was back in the hut with a four-ball duck, significantly denting LSG's chances of registering an imposing total.
Sharma picked up another crucial breakthrough in the 16th over, taking Nicholas Pooran's wicket. The southpaw perished after scoring 11 off as many balls. Sharma finished with figures of 4-0-31-2.
Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel's impressive 121*-run stand for RR
Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel stitched together a spectacular unbeaten partnership of 121 in 62 balls, guiding RR to victory.
Samson walked out to bat at No. 3 while Jurel came in when Rajasthan were 78/3 in 8.4 overs. The two dazzled the viewers with their batting exploits, taking the game away from the opposition with their stand.
The RR skipper completed his fourth half-century of the season, finishing with 71*. Jurel, on the other hand, crossed the 50-run mark for the first time in IPL 2024, scoring 52*.
Dhruv Jurel getting two reprives in the 14th over
Lucknow had a chance of swinging the pendulum in their favor in the 14th over. However, they failed to grab the chances, giving Dhruv Jurel two reprieves, which ultimately cost them the game.
Mohsin Khan bowled a full-length delivery outside the off-stump. The ball took the edge of Jurel's bat and flew towards the short third man region. Yash Thakur, who was stationed at that position, couldn't hold on to the catch.
There was yet another opportunity on the final ball of the same over. The ball once again went towards Thakur at short third, and he ended up dropping a difficult chance.
