Madhya Pradesh leg spinner Palash Kochar picks up all 10 wickets in an innings

Madhya Pradesh leg-spinner Palash Kochar picked up all the 10 wickets in an innings in a state-level game

10 wicket haul in an innings! Well, the figure has become synonymous to India’s legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble who picked up all the 10 wickets in an innings against Pakistan in a test match at the Feroze Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi. Now, another leg-spinner from India, Palash Kochar has emulated the legend’s incredible feat in a state-level tournament.

Palash, playing in Inter-Divisional Mway Memorial Trophy, picked up all 10 wickets in an innings against Narmadapuram. The opposition batsmen were simply clueless against Palash’s guile and loop as they fell like a pack of cards.

According to a report in the IBNLive, Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association statistics expert Mahavir Arya said, “"Palash in his 28.1 overs picked up 10 wickets for just 53 runs. He bowled 10 maidens as well. No one before him has ever picked 10 wickets in an innings (at this level)."

Consistent Performer

The talented leggie has been performing consistently for Madhya Pradesh in state-level tournaments. Last year he was the highest wicket-taker in the inter-divisional tournament and also won the best bowler award in the under-23 category. He is still pretty young and he can always improve. Leg-spinners are much in demand nowadays because of their natural ability to pick wickets. Palash is surely an option for the future as he has impressed everyone with whatever he has done so far.

Picking up all the 10 wickets in an innings is no mean feat and Palash has surely done a commendable job by achieving that feat. Only Jim Laker and Anil Kumble have in the history of International cricket have managed to achieve that so far. Palash has surely etched his name in the history books with his incredible performance.

England spinner Jim Laker was the first cricketer who did the perfect 10 in the 4th Ashes Test against Australia at Old Trafford in 1964. Laker picked up 10 wickets for 53 runs in Australia’s second innings to script a memorable victory for England over their archrivals. Laker had also picked up 9 wickets in the first innings in that same test match to cap off a memorable match where he picked up 19 wickets and this is a feat which is yet to be emulated or broken.

India’s Anil Kumble emulated Laker’s 10-wicket haul after 35 years as he bamboozled the Pakistan batting line up in a test match in 1999. Kumble ran through the Pakistan batting line-up and helped India win a memorable test match against their traditional rivals Pakistan.
