The magician called "Sir Jadeja"
Whatever way one defines it, the ultimate meaning still remains the same – cricket is fascinating. Cricket is amazing. It is thrilling. Cricket is a total addiction. And you know what, it is the uncertainty that stands it apart from any other game in the world – soccer included. Just one ball can change the outcome of any match or series.
Yes, I am writing this after watching one of the most thrilling contests of my life. India and New Zealand have played one of the best sports matches ever seen. It turned on its head many times. New Zealand were on top after their batting. India had a good start but then lost their way.
Once Kohli got out, the hopes of Indian spectators vanished. Everyone thought that the match was over. But then came Dhoni and Ashwin. They both hit half centuries, but could not finish the game off. When both of them were batting, India were on top. But two superb catches again changed the game. At first glance it looked like Ashwin had hit a six. But Guptill took a really brilliant catch to dismiss him.
At that stage, New Zealand would have fancied their chances. But then came Sir Jadeja. Yesterday, we really saw why he is called “Sir”. He really showed his fighting spirit and extreme determination. India’s lower order did not click much, and wickets kept falling at regular intervals. It looked like the match was gone. But then, Sir Jadeja was still there. He took control of the situation and ensured that the match went into the last over.
In the last over, India needed 18. At first, it looked impossible. He played and missed a few, and the match appeared to be over. But then he smashed a couple of boundaries and the match got much closer. He cleverly judged a couple of wide deliveries and left them alone.
Off the last two balls, India needed 8. Then came the big moment – Sir Jadeja smashed a six! It was a superbly executed shot, which led to the final target being two runs from one ball. New Zealanders seemed to be shell shocked and were constantly changing their field.
However, off the last ball, Jadeja could only muster one run. This is perhaps one of the most valuable runs he has scored – it kept India in the series! What a relief for millions of Indian fans. At least the series is alive!
This tremendous innings from Jadeja has given out a clear message to other Indian batsmen, especially the top order – they need to show much more commitment. Hats off to Sir Jadeja!
This match has once again showed what a great sport cricket is! The thrill and ever changing equations ensured that everyone was glued to the match. Our faith in the game has been restored. Hope to see many more such matches.
