5 milestones Mayank Agarwal achieved in 2017/18 domestic season
Mayank Agarwal, the 27-year-old from Bangalore, is an attacking opening batsman. Right from his early days, Mayank has been a fierce striker of the ball and has modelled his batting technique on the veteran Indian opener Virender Sehwag.
It was in the Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy in 2008 that Agarwal showcased his special talent, striking 432 runs at an average of over 50. Agarwal’s knock of 160 in Hobart next year for the India Under 19s is one of the best knocks in the history of youth ODIs.
However, stints with Delhi Daredevils, Rising Pune Supergiant and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, along with several tours with India A have still not ensured an Indian national team call-up for Mayank. However, a spirited Mayank has raised his game and has been in unbelievable form this domestic season, breaking several records.
Here are five of them:
#1 Most runs in an Indian domestic season
Mayank Agarwal has scored the most runs in an Indian domestic season across all formats. Agarwal now has 2162 runs in 32 innings in one single season. This means he averages 67.56 runs per innings, a whopping number. The previous best was Shreyas Iyer’s tally of 1947 runs in 37 innings in 2015-16 followed by Wasim Jaffer’s 1907 runs in 30 innings in 2008-09.
