Mayanti Langer hits back at Twitter trolls calling for her 'divorce' after Stuart Binny's 32-run over

Each time Stuart Binny does something less than amazing, social media finds a way for it to become a lament on Mayanti Langer’s life. It is the great tragedy of Binny and Langer’s life that these moments come pretty often.

Indian Twitteratti, otherwise quick to pronounce female presence a distraction to cricketers (clearly Anushka Sharma is to blame for Virat Kohli’s inability to lead India to victory in the last World Cup), is strangely and cruelly sympathetic to Mayanti Langer.

Langer has been seen longer on national television and has enjoyed a nationwide popularity that eclipses Binny’s. However, it should come as a surprise to no one that Langer does not enjoy being asked to leave Binny or die because of her choice to marry him.

Which is exactly what happened after Binny was hit for five consecutive sixes by West Indies's Evin Lewis during India’s Twenty20 match on August 27. People took to trolling Langer for Binny’s performance.

For some reason, they not only heckled her for her husband’s giving away of 32 runs in a single over, but also called her a ‘gold digger’ and ‘Anushka Sharma’s shopping partner,’ and recommended that she get a divorce, among other things.

She,on the other hand, had had enough and took to Twitter to slam her unabashed trollers with a heartfelt message.

In the wake of her cutting commentary on online bullies, fans have been coming out in support of Binny and Langer both. Harsha Bhogle, who is Langer’s co-host at Star Sports, was one who publicly shamed a tweeter who posted on the match with the intriguing insight of ‘RIP Binny’.
