McCullum ruled out of IPL remainder with hamstring injury

Gujarat Lions opener Brendon McCullum will miss the remainder of the IPL after sustaining a hamstring injury.

Former New Zealand captain McCullum was injured in Thursday's seven-wicket defeat to Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium.

That reverse ended Gujarat's hopes of reaching the play-offs, and the loss of the destructive 35-year-old provides another blow ahead of their final three matches.

"Thanks to team-mates, coaches, support staff, owners and fans of the @TheGujarat Lions for the opportunity to play for you all. Respect," McCullum wrote on Twitter.

"Injuries are not ideal but part of our sport. Compressed tournament & long travel can be gruelling. Sorry for not being there all the way."

In a video tweeted by the Lions he added: "I hurt my hamstring and that's ruled me out for the next three or four weeks, but I've had a great time."

Gujarat have already lost Dwayne Bravo and Andrew Tye to injuries, while Jason Roy has returned to England for international duty.

McCullum is the Lions' second-highest run scorer this year with 319 in his 11 matches.
