Reports: Melbourne Renegades keen on signing Chris Gayle

Melbourne Renegades are keen to lure Chris Gayle’s services

According to reports, Big Bash League (BBL) side Melbourne Renegades are interested in signing West Indian batsman Chris Gayle. The CEO of the Melbourne-based franchise Stuart Coventry is excited about the possibility of signing up the West Indian.

"At the moment, we have two international spots on our roster that we need to fill. Chris is obviously a fantastic player he's an excitement machine and he's the sort of character who the fans want to see strut his stuff," he said.

The big-hitting Jamaican has previously represented Sydney Thunder in the BBL, but his former team don’t seem to be too keen in his services now.

"The club is looking at 'a much more balanced approach' in terms of distribution of salary cap funds when compared with those first two unsuccessful seasons," Sydney Thunder General Manager Nick Cummins said.

With Aaron Finch already part of the same team, the Renegades could have one of the most destructive opening pairs in world cricket.

The 35-year-old, with 7332 runs to his name, is the leading run-scorer in the history of T20 cricket. He also became the first overseas player to amass 3000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at a jaw-dropping average of 47.89 with five centuries.
