Mumbai Indians playing a must-win game against Kolkata Knight Riders, who were at the third spot in the table, were sent in to bat first. Mumbai got the right start as Surya Kumar Yadav and Evin Lewis put together 91 runs in nine overs.

In the remaining 11 overs, MI could only manage 90 in spite of a fifty from SKY and a 20-ball 35 from Hardik Pandya.

Krunal Pandya and JP Duminy could not score at a faster rate in the death overs and MI ended up scoring 181.

During the chase, KKR lost both their openers within four overs but Robin Uthappa and Nitish Rana put together a brilliant partnership of 84 runs from 56 balls. Uthappa who was dropped by Mayank Markande on four went on to score 54 runs off 35 balls before giving his wicket to Markande.

Uthappa's wicket was followed by Rana's a wicket and MI started to pull things back with the departure of two settled batsmen.

From a stage where KKR needed 71 off last eight overs with eight wickets in hand, Mumbai managed to win by 13 runs thanks to some good bowling in the death overs.
