MI vs LSG Match Prediction: Who will win today's IPL 2024 match?
The Mumbai Indians (MI) couldn't have asked for a better fixture to end their IPL 2024 campaign. Not only will they be playing at the Wankhede in front of their home crowd, they also face off against the Lucknow Super Giants, who are in the middle of a disappointing three-game skid.
Mumbai's campaign has been nothing short of miserable. The five-time champions have never been in the playoff race and were the first team to be eliminated. They find themselves last in the standings, with only eight points from 13 matches.
Meanwhile, Lucknow's IPL 2024 stint started off in promising fashion, and they occupied the playoff spots for most of the first half. Things have come undone since then, though, and they are seventh with 12 points. While they haven't been mathematically eliminated yet, it's safe to say that the MI clash will likely be their last outing of the tournament.
LSG have won four of their five meetings against MI. Earlier in IPL 2024, Marcus Stoinis' all-round show took them to a four-wicket victory at the Ekana Stadium. Interestingly, after that game, the Super Giants moved up to third in the points table.
Nevertheless, those facts belong to the past, and the only thing on these two teams' minds will be to dish out a complete performance to close out their campaign.
IPL 2024, MI vs LSG Win Probability: Hardik Pandya and Co. seek minor consolation
Rohit Sharma has lost his form completely in the second half of the tournament. With the T20 World Cup on the horizon, the opening batter will want to restore some respectability to his season statistics. His partner, Ishan Kishan, will have an eye on the same objective.
LSG's powerplay bowling hasn't been too penetrative in IPL 2024. Mohsin Khan has had his moments, such as in the reverse fixture, but the last few games have seen KL Rahul desperately search for options within the first six overs. So MI's openers could fancy their chances of making the most of the powerplay at the batting-friendly Wankhede.
On the whole, despite their terrible performances so far, MI have more bases covered than LSG. The Super Giants have clear concerns in all facets of their side. The top order has underwhelmed; the middle order is brittle, while the bowling attack hasn't pulled its weight.
Both teams might be inclined to rest and rotate for this clash. Irrespective of whether they do that, Mumbai could start as the favorites at home, although Lucknow will be ahead of the odds if they chase.
