Surprised by MS Dhoni suggesting my name for next Indian coach: Michael Hussey

Michael Hussey

Former Australian batsman Michael Hussey has said that he is surprised by rumours stating that MS Dhoni has him in mind to take over as the coach of the Indian team after the 2015 World Cup.

According to recent reports, Dhoni sees a lot of similarities in the manner in which Hussey and former coach Gary Kirsten go about their business and finds the 39-year-old as the ideal man to coach India.

The 33-year-old feels that Hussey is an astute thinker of the game and has got good man-management skills. The fact that he is from the current generation of cricketers who knows the modern game well is an added advantage too. Current head coach Duncan Fletcher’s contract expires after the mega event, and he is extremely unlikely to get an extension.

“I'm not sure if I'm really ready for that sort of challenge. Thanks, MS [Dhoni], if it's true...but, I'm still playing!" Hussey was quoted as saying to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Hussey also made it clear that his current focus is on helping his Big Bash League (BBL) side, Sydney Thunder, do well in the competition.

“This has been a huge motivation. To build something up...something we can be very proud of...really motivated me to join the Thunder,” he signed off.
