Mithun and Taskin included in Bangladesh squad for ODIs against India
19-year old pace bowler Taskin Ahmed , who recently recovered from a knee injury that sidelined him for nearly a year after the BPL in 2013 and 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Mithun are will be a part of the host’s squad when they will lock horns with the Indian squad for the three-match One-Day International series starting in Mirpur on June 15, as announced by the BCB in a presser on Thursday.
Giving a preference to pacers and all-rounders this time the squad also consists of Ziaur Rahman who’s excellent seam-bowling skills have resulted in medium-pacer Rubel Hossain remaining the bench. Following him are Imrul Kayes, Arafat Sunny, Naeem Islam and Shafiul Islam who were part of the team during the Asia Cup series. While the left-handed opening batsman Tamim Iqbal, who missed the previous tournament due to a neck injury is set to make a comeback.
With the 2015 World Cup approaching soon, the BCB are leaving no stone unturned to make a perfect squad by next year.
"We have kept more or less a settled squad but it is also important to get an idea about the kind of back up we have in our hands as we start preparing for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Mithun [Ali] has been under our radar for a while. He has performed consistently in the limited overs format and in the longer version as well during the last couple of years and deserves a chance at international level, Taskin [Ahmed] is an exciting prospect and has already played a Twenty20 international. We thought it was a good opportunity to see how he performs in the 50-over game in home conditions against some quality batsmen," said chief selector Faruque Ahmed.
Squad: Mushfiqur Rahim (capt), Tamim Iqbal, Anamul Haque, Shamsur Rahman, Mominul Haque, Shakib Al Hasan, Nasir Hossain, Mahmudullah, Mithun Ali, Abdur Razzak, Masrafe Mortaza, Shohag Gazi, Ziaur Rahman, Al-Amin Hossain, Taskin Ahmed.
