Mohammed Shami ruled out of IPL 2015 with knee injury

Mohammed Shami

India and Delhi Daredevils (DD) fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a knee injury. Shami, who came into the IPL having had an excellent World Cup campaign for India with 17 wickets in 7 matches, was absent from the first three games for the Daredevils, but DD were hoping that he would recover quickly and play an integral part in their season. However, it has now been confirmed that he won’t be taking any part in this year’s campaign.

"Shami is out of the tournament. He might have to go for operation. He should not have gone for IPL. He will take at least two months for recovery," an official of the BCCI told PTI on condition of anonymity.

The news comes as a big blow to the Daredevils, who would have been pinning their hopes on Shami to not only take wickets with the new ball but also take the onus when it comes to bowling in the death overs.

Zaheer Khan, who has also missed the first three games owing to injury, should soon be back in action. With DD’s fast bowling stocks wearing thin, he will have to step up to the plate and lead the bowling attack in Shami’s absence.
