That moment when 1.5 billion people shall stand together

A lot is expected from MS Dhoni and his men

Something dramatic happened in the month of April. The year was 2011. It was one of these rare moments which brought the whole nation together. Yes, each and every individual had vouched for a common thing, the World Cup. It had been 28 years, phew, the time stamp was huge. Every tournament that India had played since 1983 had some sort of hope attached with it. 1983 was the year of the turnaround. And that was the time when a billions heart had started beating and something familiar had begun to echo, that was the chants of “INDIA, INDIA”.

India had to wait and this gap was huge. Dhoni’s men were up against some of the top teams in the world. India cruised into the finals. This was one of the rarest times when a billion hands prayed together for a common cause. Yes, that was the World Cup. The generation next, as they call it in India, had never known that they were going to witness something which they had never imagined. But hold on, “never imagined”, will that be the right way to put it? No, the correct way should go like this “they were going to witness something which they had imagined only in their dreams”, a dream which each Indian had seen.

India lost Sachin and Sehwag early, but in came a man at number 4 who is as solid as a rock and as cool as a cucumber. And in the next few hours something happened. The whole of India was in tears and these tears belonged to a positive genre, a genre of pride and happiness.

Yes, as soon as Dhoni hit that winning six of Nuwan Kulasakera 1.5 billion people erupted together. Oh yes these moments can’t described in words. But still never ever have we seen a stranger hugging another stranger. And this did happen, where? This happened on every street of India, the roads went alive at midnight. This was something which India hadn’t witnessed ever.

That was a moment which made every commoner forget all his/her grief. India as a nation has a million problems-poverty, illiteracy, scandals, scams, corruption. And MS Dhoni’s boys had done something, hold on, I could have put a hundred adjectives after ‘something’ but let’s keep it blank because now word in English language can aptly describe that feeling.

The moment has arrived again. The World Cup is on and we all know that off late we haven’t done anything great on field. Scams have rocked our country, Arvind Kejriwal has resigned, and the hullaboo of AAP has gone down with double the speed it went up, Rahul Gandhi has given one of the worst interviews anybody could ever witness. Rupee price has sky rocketed in the past few months and a billion problems have made an Indian suffer. The last few lines were so depressing and horrific, isn’t it?

Don’t we deserve a time out again? Yes we do, and that is possible, if India triumphs in the upcoming T20 World Cup, each and every individual will get a breather. Yes, this breather will be a short lived one but this would be enough to bring some respite from the 111 problems each and every individual has to face on a daily basis. We as Indians are with team India because we know that they are the best in the business.

That moment, that very feeling and that very smile is going to be back soon. How good it looks when we see the people of our country standing united for a common cause? Cricket is the only thing in our country which has the power to do so. The best thing we can do right now is to remember our players in our prayers because God does exist and prayers do work. And when 1.5 billion people pray, then for sure that ‘feeling’ and that ‘dream’ is going to get real again.
