Mominul Haque ends streak of 50+ scores in 11 consecutive Test matches
At just 23 years of age and with the experience of 15 Test matches, Bangladesh’s Mominul Haque is in an elite club of players for a particular feat. In fact, he could have equalled a unique record if he had scored a 50+ in the Fatullah Test against India, but rain played spoilsport and he missed the only opportunity he had in the match by failing in the first innings.
Mominul had a 50+ score in each of his last 11 Test matches. He needed to do it in the Test against India to equal AB de Villiers’ record of 12 consecutive Test matches with 50+ scores and another 50+ score in the next match would have meant that he held the record at such a small age and at the start of his career.

Mominul began his Test career with scores of 55 and 64 in his first two innings against Sri Lanka. He scored 23 & 29 in the third Test and missed out on scoring a 50. Then from his 4th Test to 14th Test, he scored at least one 50+ score in each of the 11 Tests. In the 15th Test, against India at Fatullah, he scored 30 in the first innings and didn’t get to bat in the second innings and thus his streak of 11 consecutive Test matches has ended.
The remarkable feat for the young Mominul is he is in the elite club of batting greats Viv Richards, Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag despite having an experience of just 15 Tests. They all scored 50+ in 11 consecutive Test matches.

- Mominul Haque, from Test number 4 to 14, is the earliest to achieve this feat in his career. Viv Richards did it from Test number 12 to 22.
- Gautam Gambhir’s sequence involved 5 consecutive Test matches with a 100+ score. He missed beating Don Bradman’s record of centuries in six consecutive Test matches.
- Everton Weekes scored 50+ in 9 consecutive Tests from his Test number 4 to 12.
-
Mominul Haque has scored at least one 50 in 13 of his 15 Tests but he hasn’t scored 50+ in both innings of any Test match.
