Mominul smashes ton as Bangladesh draw with Sri Lanka
Dhaka, Feb 9 (IANS) Riding on a superb ton by Mominul Haque, Bangladesh drew Saturday the second Test with Sri Lanka in the Sahara Cup at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, some 242km from capital Dhaka.
The visitors, however, sealed the two-match Test series as they had won the first match earlier. Sri Lanka defeated Bangladesh by an innings and 248 runs on the fourth day of the 1st Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka last Thursday, Xinhua reported.
Mominul, who hit 100 runs off 167 balls, contributed largely to the efforts of the hosts to score 467 runs in the second innings.
Chasing Sri Lanka’s mammoth 587 runs, Bangladesh managed to score 426 runs on their first innings of the second Test, trailing by 161 runs.
Sri Lanka made another 305-runs in their second innings.
During the fifth and final day’s match, Bangladesh scored 271 runs for 3 wickets to end the match in a draw.
With his 319 in the first innings and 105 in the second, Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara was awarded the player of the match. He was also adjudged player of the series.
Veteran batsman Kumar Sangakkara reached his maiden triple- century on Wednesday to lead Sri Lanka to a mammoth first innings score of 587 on day two of the second test.
Sangakkara hit his highest test score of 319 runs as the visitors were all out for 587 runs in their first innings.
Shamsur Rahman and Imrul Kayes hit maiden centuries to help Bangladesh’s efforts to fight back in their first innings on day three of the second Test.
Sri Lanka cricket team arrived in Dhaka Jan 24 to play two Tests, three One Day Internationals and two Twenty20 match during the month-long tour.
