Dhoni holds the record when he made an unbeaten 183 against Sri Lanka

The most runs by a wicketkeeper batsman in an innings was scored by India’s MS Dhoni when he smashed an unbeaten 183 against the Sri Lankans. Aussie legend Adam Gilchrist occupies 3 out of the top 5 spots in the list. You can find it below.

1. MS Dhoni (183*)

Had the target been 320, we might have easily seen the first ever double hundred way back in 2005. Chasing 299 against Sri Lanka, Indian Captain Dravid sent Dhoni in at 3, and the move paid rich dividends as he smashed 10 sixes and remained unbeaten on 183. India won easily with four overs to spare.

2. Adam Gilchrist (172)

First of many on this list. It was the annual tri series in Australia with Zimbabwe being the third team alongside India. Australia made 344, out of which Gilly made exactly half of it. All he took was just 126 balls,  and Australia won by a massive margin of 148 runs.

3. Kumar Sangakkara (169)

This knock from the Sri Lankan icon came in when he was in the form of his life in limited overs cricket. At one point of time, he was batting on 65 from 90 deliveries and just exploded out of nowhere to finish on 169 from a 137 balls.

4. Adam Gilchrist (154)

It was just his fifth one day hundred and it came against Sri Lanka at the MCG. He hit 14 fours and four sixes before finally getting out. Australia won the game by 43 runs.

5. Adam Gilchrist (149)

Again Adam Gilchrist, again Sri Lanka. But this was the grandest stage of them all. The 2007 world cup finals. The match was reduced to 38 overs and Gilly blew the lankans away right at the start with his breathtaking display of power hitting. He hit 8 sixes and finished on 149 from just a 104 balls helping Australia win their 4th world title.
