Stats: Most runs conceded by a bowler in T20 Internationals

James Anderson shares the record for the most runs conceded by a bowler in T20 internationals alongside Sanath Jayasuriya. In T20, a bowler doesn’t really have a scope for a comeback since one bad over can ruin his figures. Also since they don’t really bowl a long spell in this format, it is very difficult to get in to a proper rhythm. In this list, we will take a look at the bowlers who have given the most runs in their quota of 4 overs in a T20 international.

Anderson is not considered for T20’s these days by England

Player Overs Runs  Oppostion
James Anderson (ENG) 4 64 Australia
Sanath Jayasuriya (SL) 4 64 Pakistan
Rubel Hossain (BAN) 4 63 West Indies
Mashrafe Mortaza (BAN) 4 63 Pakistan
Lameck Onyango (KEN) 4 61 Sri Lanka

?1. James Anderson (64 runs)

Not someone who would be associated with this format, perhaps that is why England do not consider him for T20s these days even though he has expressed his desire to play in it and also in the IPL. It was a bad night for Jimmy as almost every Australian batsman feasted on his bowling and he ended up conceding 64 runs, something which he wouldn’t want to concede even in a 50 over game. He played his last T20I game way back in November 2009.

2. Sanath Jayasuriya (64 runs)

For once, Jayasuriya was at the receiving end. Throughout his career, he punished bowlers by smacking them all over the park but on that day, the Pakistani batsmen made him taste some of his own medicine. Younis Khan and Shoaib Malik gave him a torrid time and in the end it was Pakistan who came out on top as they won by 33 runs.

?3. Rubel Hossain (63 runs)

Not many bowlers get to dismiss both Dwayne Smith and Chris Gayle in the same match, but Rubel did it. But then again, not many bowlers concede 63 runs in their four overs as well. Marlon Samuels made an unbeaten 85 which had nine sixes, out of which four came in Rubel Hossain’s last over which went for 29 runs. Bangladesh in their chase, fell short by 18 runs.

4. Mashrafe Mortaza (63 runs)

From one Bangladeshi to another, it was Mortaza’s turn to get smacked. The occasion was the World T20 in his own country and the game was against Pakistan. Bangladesh’s most successful seamer bowled all over the place and became a fodder for the centurion Ahmed Shehzad to feed upon. Shehzad alone hit six fours and two sixes of Mashrafe’s bowling making it a night to forget for him.

5. Lameck Onyango (61 runs)

This match is more famous for Sri Lanka making the highest score in a T20 international when they made 260 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs. Onyango had conceded 32 runs in his first 3 overs which was decent considering the carnage. But his final over cost him 29 runs which confirmed his presence on this list. It was Jehan Mubarak who hit 4 sixes and a four in that over which happened to be the 19th in the innings.
