Stats: Most sixes in ODI cricket
Afridi as we all know has hit the most sixes in ODI cricket.
Here are the top 5 players on this list.
Player | Country | Matches | No. of Sixes |
Shahid Afridi | Pakistan | 378 | 333 |
Sanath Jayasuriya | Sri Lanka | 445 | 270 |
Chris Gayle | West Indies | 255 | 204 |
Sachin Tendulkar | India | 463 | 195 |
Sourav Ganguly | India | 311 | 190 |
1. Shahid Afridi (333 sixes)
No prices for guesses! Shahid Afridi with 333 sixes is right on top and he has developed a huge gap between him and the man at second spot and the most stunning thing here to notice is that he is going to improve that gap further since he is still playing at the international level for Pakistan.
2. Sanath Jayasuriya (270)
All he needs to do is either cut them or flick them and the ball goes flying off his bat for a six. He was simply a marauder in his days and still has the world record for the fastest fifty in this format which he made of just 17 balls. With 270 sixes he is comfortably placed at number 2.
3. Chris Gayle (204)
He hits them big, he hits them far. He really is a monster. Chris Gayle’s 204 sixes have come in just 255 matches, which again is really astonishing. Gayle is also one of the few players who has hit more than a thousand fours in the format.
4. Sachin Tendulkar (195)
Records and Tendulkar go hand in hand. With 195 sixes, he is at number four. Whether it’s the pacers or the spinners, Sachin was always dominating them. Even his staunchest of haters won’t forget the six he hit against England in the 2003 world cup which was pulled out of the stadium.
5. Sourav Ganguly (190)
Just five short of his teammate Sachin, DADA rounds off the list with 190 sixes. But he is being fast approached by the current Indian skipper MS Dhoni. His favourite and most memorable sixes have come against the spinners where he dances down the track and lofts them over long on and midwicket.
