Movie on 1983 World Cup victory set to be produced by Vishnu Induri and Phantom Films
In the past two years, we have seen numerous biopics in Bollywood, but a proposed film on the victorious Indian Cricket Team in the 1983 World Cup could be greater than any other. The Kapil Dev-led Indian Team won the 1983 World Cup by defeating the invincible West Indies and the founder of the Cricket Celebrity League, Vishnu Induri, along with Phantom Films is set to produce a film on that incredible victory.
The movie is set to release in March 2017 and the winning captain Kapil Dev feels that their World Cup triumph is a “story of inspiration” which needs to be told.
As per the reports from NDTV Sports, it is learned that the producers have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the 1983 World Cup winning team for an official biopic of their journey to lift the “Prudential Cup” at the Lord’s Balcony.

The “Hurricane from Haryana” said, "The Journey of the 1983 team is a story of inspiration which proves that one can achieve anything if they aim for it and work for it no matter what the world thinks,"
The West Indies were undoubtedly the best team back in 1983 and were the defending champions winning back to back World Cup in 1975 and 1979. But India came up with something special by defeating the Clive Lloyd-led team in a group-stage match in Manchester followed by the final at Lord’s.
India was put to bat by the West Indies and was bowled out for 183 runs mostly due to the brilliance of their fast bowling attack. Kapil Dev, who inspired the team with his economical bowling and fielding along with match winning spells from Madan Lal and Mohinder Amarnath bowled out the opposition for 140 runs to lift their maiden World Cup. Mohinder Amarnath was awarded the “Man of the Match” for picking up three wickets, and playing a handy 26-run inning.

It is also learnt that the actual names of the players will be used in the film and the team members are quite anxious about the biopic.
As per a joint statement by Induri and Phantom Films’ Madhu Mantena read, "We are super excited about making of the 1983 movie and it's a huge responsibility on our shoulders to get it right as we don't get to tell stories like this often"
