400 ODI dismissals for MS Dhoni: tracing the landmark
India's limited-overs wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni joined the illustrious list of men who have affected 400 dismissals or more behind the stumps in ODI cricket when he stumped South Africa's stand-in captain Aiden Markram off Kuldeep Yadav at Cape Town in the third ODI between the sides yesterday. Dhoni joined an elite list of glovemen to have reached the feat, accompanying former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara, Adam Gilchrist of Australia and South Africa's Mark Boucher in the process.
Sportskeeda looks back at his landmark ODI dismissals, beginning from number 1, and moving to dismissals number 100, 200, 300 and 400.
#1 Nafis Iqbal: Dhaka, 2004
Brief Scores: Bangladesh 229/9 in 50 overs (Ahmed 67, Mortaza 31*; Agarkar 2/31) beat India 214 in 47.5 overs (Sriram 57, Kaif 49; Baisya 2/35) by 15 runs
Dhoni's first ODI scalp came in his second game, when he caught Bangladesh opener Nafis Iqbal off Ajit Agarkar at Dhaka. Bangladesh had posted a modest 229 in the second match of the series after a close encounter in the first, which the visitors had won by 11 runs. In fact, that would turn out to be the Ranchi native's first notable contribution in the series following his run out off the first ball he faced on ODI debut in the previous game.
When his chance to bat arrived, Dhoni again departed cheaply with a score of 12 as surprisingly, India failed to chase down the easy target of 230, as the hosts levelled the series with match to play, astonishing the cricketing world with a rare win over a fairly strong India unit, though it had Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid missing from its line-up.
