MS Dhoni fined 75% of match fees after collision with Mustafizur Rahman
Indian skipper MS Dhoni has been fined 75% of his match fees after his collision with left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman during their 79-run defeat to Bangladesh in the first One-Day International (ODI) at Mirpur on Thursday. During the 25th over of the Indian innings, Dhoni ran into Mustafizur while taking a run and literally shoved him out of the way with his forearm, prompting the left-armer to walk off the field with immediate effect.
While Dhoni felt that Mustafizur was equally at fault for the incident, the 19-year-old, who starred with figures of 5 for 50 on his debut, has only been fined 50% of his match fees.
Speaking after the match, Dhoni had said: "If I am going around the bowler, more often than not they'll get the batsman out. So either I should have moved to the right or he should have moved to the left but both of us thought maybe the other guy will, but we ended up with a, what you can say, typical kind of a street clash. I think this can happen in any match. It's nothing big. I spoke to him later."
Leaving all that aside, though, Bangladesh can be mighty pleased with their display as they showed once again that they are a force to reckon with in ODI cricket. Opting to bat first, they posted an imposing score of 307 on the board and restricted the visitors to 228 all out in their reply, thereby earning a 1-0 lead in the series with two matches to go.
