MS Dhoni's great gesture to make a fan realise her dreams
Ahead of the fourth ODI between India and New Zealand at MS Dhoni’s hometown Ranchi, a photo of Dhoni driving his Hummer from the airport to his house took the internet by storm. What made it more special was the reactions of the New Zealand players Ross Taylor and Tom Latham, who were awestruck in their team bus after seeing the Indian skipper passing by in his car.
Unfortunately, India went on to lose the match by 19 runs but managed to win the series at Vizag a couple of days later.
It was then that a teenage fan from Ranchi decided to chase her dream.
Aaradhya, who is a student of Ranchi’s Women’s College saw Dhoni crossing by her in his Hummer and decided to follow him on her little Scooty. MS Dhoni left his hometown Ranchi and took his Hummer for a run to make it to the airport.

This is when a gang of girls parked on their bikes in the roadside saw the skipper and Aaradhya was quick to react as she took her two-wheeler out immediately, followed the racing Hummer and finally managed to catch up to the wicketkeeper-batsman at the Airport terminal. She somehow managed to catch his attention by yelling out Dhoni’s name and Captain Cool with a smile on his face, obliged her wish to click a selfie.
When asked, Aaradhya revealed that Dhoni was in fact down to earth and humble. Her many attempts to meet her favourite star had finally paid off.
Martin Guptill’s stroke-filled fifty, along with some fine contributions from Kane Williamson and pacers Tim Southee, Trent Boult and Jimmy Neesham helped the visitors get a close victory in the ODI. Dhoni failed to deliver with the bat in front of a packed house that came to see their hometown hero’s fireworks with the willow.
However, Dhoni managed to amaze the crowd by running Ross Taylor out in a street-smart manner. Taylor flicked a Dhawal Kulkarni delivery to the deep square-leg boundary where Umesh Yadav collected the ball and threw it to his skipper at the striker’s end.
Dhoni, who was miles in front of the wicket, received the ball and flicked it onto the stumps with his back turned to it. If it was a conventional keeper, he would have been waiting behind the stumps to collect the ball and that would have allowed the batsman to make it to the crease as the throw from the deep was not accurate.
