Munaf Patel surprised by his exclusion from IPL 2014
Indian pace bowler Munaf Patel, who played a vital role in the World Cup winning squad in 2011, has expressed his surprise at his IPL exclusion. Munaf had bagged 22 wickets in the World Cup 2011.
The same year, Munaf Patel was bought for $700,000 by Mumbai Indians. After recovering from some injuries, he recently had a decent domestic season but none of the 8 franchisees picked him.
“I am surprised too, But really I can’t say with any conviction why none of the eight franchisees picked me. I played four Ranji matches this season and picked a ten-wicket haul against Services. I recently played an institutional tournament in Mumbai and picked a few wickets. I am fit and bowling at decent pace,” Munaf told to the Mumbai Mirror.
“I am fit. I have played Ranji, office tournaments. I am going to play one-dayers and T20 for Baroda in coming months,” he added.
Munaf Patel is the 12th leading wicket-taker in the IPL. He had set his base price at Rs 50 lakh in this years IPL auction.
Munaf remains hopeful of making a comeback. “That’s what I am aiming and trying for. My point is that cricket is the only thing I know and so why will I not take it seriously? This is my passion, bread and butter.”
