Murali Vijay disappointed after being left out of Vijay Hazare squad
What's the story?
Indian Test opener Murali Vijay has expressed his disappointment over not being selected in Tamil Nadu's squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
“I just feel sad for whatever that has happened. Things could have been handled better. I’m set to talk with the TNCA officials soon and I feel things will be fine,” he said in an interaction with the Times of India.
“I felt let down that my commitment was questioned and I was hurt. I love playing for Tamil Nadu and take a lot of pride in representing the state. My dream is to win the Ranji Trophy for TN and I’m confident it will happen," he continued.
In case you didn't know...
Earlier in the tournament, Vijay did not report to the ground for the match against Chennai due to a shoulder injury he had picked up.
Apparently, he did not inform the team management about his decision to miss the match and that caused quite a stir amongst the selectors.
The details:
The 33-year-old batsman played just two matches for Tamil Nadu in the tournament so far against Gujarat and Goa, where he scored 11 and 51 respectively.
Prior to this, he did not have a great series against South Africa, where he failed to register a single half-century.
What's next?
Vijay will next play in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings after which he will travel to England along with the Indian cricket team.
Author's take:
If the reports are true, Vijay should have taken it upon himself to inform the team management about his unavailability for the match against Mumbai.
However, by not selecting him, the Tamil Nadu side are missing out, given that he is a highly experienced batsman who could have taken them forward in the tournament.
