Mustafizur Rahman out of action again due to shoulder injury
Mustafizur Rahman, the Bangladeshi left-arm medium fast bowler is out of action for Sussex due to a shoulder injury. After his injury, Sussex will have to play Nat-west T20 Blast and Royal London One-Day Group matches without the Bangladeshi left-armer.
Rahman arrived in England just a day before the Sussex match started and gave a stunning performance. He took four wickets in the first match and helped Sussex defeat Essex by 24 runs, but went wicket-less in the second outing.
His performance won him the Man of the Match award but he picked up an injury in the left shoulder during the match. Sussex Captain Luke Wright called him a “special bowler”.
The 20-year old bowler has an injury to the labrum, which is the cartilage around the socket of the shoulder joint, which medical practitioners say SLAP tear. After he missed Sussex’s latest one day match, just a couple of days ago, Rahman had taken an MRI scan.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) were not satisfied with one test and asked him to take him some other tests. They also said that after the test results come out, it will be decided whether he is going to stay in the UK or return to Bangladesh.
As reported by ESPNCricinfo, BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said that the board will wait for another medical assessment before deciding on Rahman’s future plans. "He has to undergo another assessment today, after which we will be able to know whether he will stay back in the UK for further medical attention or if he will return to Bangladesh".
A Sussex official told ESPNCricinfo regarding Rahman, "The 20-year-old is suffering from a shoulder injury, and, under the direction of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, is due to have a scan this week to ascertain whether or not he will be fit enough to play in any knockout matches should Sussex qualify for the latter stages of either competition".
BCB's media chairman Jalal Yunus had his say about the bowler’s condition as well.
"He will need another MRI to understand the exact nature of his injury," said Yunus. "There's some extra fluid on his shoulder. The MRI will tell us what he should be doing thereafter - an injection or a surgery. We will hear the advice of the specialists in the UK and our doctors and physio."
Rahman was scheduled to play five more matches in the group phase of both competitions.
