Mustafizur Rahman to undergo shoulder surgery on August 11

Mustafizur will be out of action for six months

According to a press statement released by Bangladesh Cricket Board, fast bowler Mustafizur Rehman will undergo shoulder surgery on August 11 in London. The fast bowler is expected to be out of action for at least a minimum period of six months. A lay-off of this nature would rule him out of England's visit in October and the tour to New Zealand at the end of the year.

As per Bangladesh Cricket Board’s media committee director Jalal Yunus, Mustafizur’s surgery will be conducted at London's Fortius Clinic. The lanky fast bowler, who is currently in England, suffered the shoulder injury after only two matches. A longstanding problem, Mustafizur first felt the niggle at the start of the year in the Zimbabwe tri-series.

As a result, he was ruled out of the rest of their one-day and T20 campaign with a SLAP (Superior Labrum from Anterior to Posterior) tear. The same injury was responsible for his delayed appearance for Sussex as well which has now come to an end prematurely.

Mustafizur came to limelight last season against South Africa and also represented Sunriser Hyderabad in this year’s edition of the IPL. In a report by Mohammad Isam of ESPNcricinfo, the statement of Jalal Yunus, “We are taking the best care of Mustafizur. This sort of injury usually is treated conservatively but we are not going that way with Mustafizur because the doctors have said that it might recur in the future”
