Former Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has been appointed as the bowling coach and team mentor of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2015 IPL season. The news was revealed by the franchise on their Twitter account on Monday.

The 42-year-old, who retired from international cricket with 800 Test wickets and 534 ODI wickets, picked up 63 wickets in 66 IPL games at an excellent economy rate of 6.69. During a seven-year long association with the lucrative T20 league, he played for three franchises: Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the now-defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

He achieved tremendous success while representing CSK in particular, winning the title in both 2010 and 2011, as well as the Champions League T20 in South Africa in 2010.

Murali decided to end his playing career at the end of the 2014 IPL season, after not getting regular opportunities for RCB during the season.
