Mzansi Super League 2019: Jozi Stars appoint Neil McKenzie as mentor and consultant
What's the story?
Former South African batsman Neil McKenzie has joined the Mzansi Super League franchise Jozi Stars as a mentor and consultant.
The Stars have got some big names like Chris Gayle, Rassie van der Dussen and Reeza Hendricks in their ranks, but they are currently placed at the bottom of the points table with 0 points in 4 matches. They would be hoping McKenzie helps bring about a change in their fortunes.
The background
The 43-year-old South African veteran had been a cornerstone of the South African team in the Test format. He played 58 Tests for the rainbow nation during his decade-long career, scoring 3,253 runs at an average of 37.39.
The right-handed batsman even played 155 T20s during his career, scoring 3,357 runs at an average of 33.57 and a strike rate of 118.62.

The heart of the matter
MSL defending champions Jozi Stars have struggled to get going this season despite having a star-studded line-up. They have lost all of their four matches in the tournament and the management has now elected to appoint McKenzie as the new mentor and consultant of the team.
McKenzie possesses a good amount of experience in the coaching world, having served as the batting coach of South Africa. The former Proteas opener will look to turn around the Stars' season by inspiring the players to bring their 'A' game in the coming matches.
What's next?
Jozi Stars will be in action next on 22 November when they lock horns with Paarl Rocks in match number 13 of the season. The Temba Bavuma-led side will try their best to win the upcoming games and strengthen their case for a place in the next round.
