Mzansi Super League 2019: Paarl Rocks sign Ruan de Swardt as a replacement for JP Duminy
What's the story?
Paarl Rocks have roped in upcoming South African all-rounder, Ruan de Swardt as JP Duminy's replacement for the remaining part of Mzansi Super League 2019. Duminy had earlier been ruled out of the tourney with a hamstring injury.
The background
JP Duminy has been a veteran in the limited-overs format having taken part in T20 leagues around the world. He had retired as South Africa's highest run-scorer in T20I cricket and was set to be an integral part of the Rocks in MSL 2019.
The left-handed batsman missed the previous season of the South African T20 league as well because of a hand injury.

The heart of the matter
As the Paarl-based franchise needed a batting all-rounder to replace Duminy in the squad, they signed the emerging all-rounder Ruan de Swardt. The 21-year-old has played 4 T20 matches in his career, scoring 43 runs at a strike rate of 130.30. His highest T20 score is 37 while the left-handed batsman can keep the wickets as well.
In his most recent first-class match, the Kempton-born player had smashed a hundred while representing the Northerns in Pretoria.
What's next?
De Swardt will look to make his mark in the 2019 Mzansi Super League. Paarl Rocks will fight against the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants in a top of the table clash tomorrow. Interestingly, the Giants had signed Ryan ten Doeschate as Farhaan Behardien's replacement earlier in the day.
