Nepal Women dismantle to lowest ever T-20 score
Indian women mauled the Nepal women in their last game of the Asia Cup by dismissing them for a meager 21, and registering a 99 run win in the process. With this commanding victory, the Indian women have reached the final of the tournament that is being played in Bangkok for the first time.
Winning the toss, India opted to bat first and put on 120 in their allotted 20 overs, riding on a brisk 39 by Shikha Pandey lower down the order. The Nepal women, in their reply, never got their innings started and were simply outclassed by a more experienced Indian side. India, who were always the firm favourites going into the match, put on an all-round performance with both bat and the ball, with five of their batters reaching double digit, and VR Vanitha and Pandey providing the impetus at the end.
With the ball, Poonam Yadav led the way for India taking 3 for 9 from just three overs. Sabbhineni Meghna and Anuja Patil bowled miserly for india, and complemented Yadav with two wickets apiece from the other end.
Incidentally, the Nepal women were bundled out for 23 against Sri Lanka earlier in the tournament.
The score of 21 by Nepal’s women is the lowest ever innings total in the history of women’s T20 cricket. Infact, the previous record was also held by them during their performance against the Sri Lanka women. The third and fourth lowest T-20 innings total in women’s cricket also feature from this tournament – both of them by Bangladesh, when they scored 44 and 54 earlier in the tournament.
