New Zealand can be beaten: Jason Holder

Jason Holder during pre-match press conference

West Indies skipper Jason Holder said on Friday that his team can beat New Zealand when the both sides meet in the fourth World Cup quarter-final at the Wellington Regional Stadium here on Saturday. The Kiwis are on a rollicking form in the quadrennial event, clinching all six of their group games while the Caribbean side has struggled for form in the group stages and finished fourth in the group stages edging Ireland out with a superior net run rate.

"Obviously there have been obstacles and obviously there will be difficult times," Holder told reporters at the Basin Reserve on Friday.

"(The quarter-final) is a huge thing for us. People pretty much wrote us off at the beginning of the tournament. They didn't expect us to get to the quarter-final stage and now we're here. We're just going out all guns blazing in the match and just giving it our all." said the 23-year old captain.

Earlier in the week, Holder and Darren Sammy tried to put pressure on the host nation, saying Brendon McCullum's side had to meet the expectations of home fans eager for success.

"In terms of losing games, you will lose cricket games," Holder said in reference to the fact his side had beaten just UAE, Zimbabwe and a Pakistan side struggling to get going early in the tournament.

"But the main thing is we're here in this quarter-final and we're looking to win it.” he added

"New Zealand can be beaten. We beat them in the last series when we played them here and no doubt we will be looking to beat them again." concluded the skipper.
