New Zealand vs Bangladesh, 3rd ODI: Preview and Predicted XI
New Zealand demolished Bangladesh by eight wickets in the previous ODI at Christchurch to attain an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. The hosts will now be aiming for the fourth consecutive clean sweep over Bangladesh, when they welcome visitors for the third One Day International at the University Oval in Dunedin on Wednesday, February 20.
New Zealand
The hosts have been clinical throughout the series and have beaten the opponents in all three facets of the game. Though Kane Williamson has been rested for the final ODI, his absence is expected to have the least impact on the Kiwi's show. In his absence, Tom Latham will lead the side.
Batting
Martin Guptill is looking in ominous form. The opener cracked a hundred in both games and will be expected to provide another strong performance in the third ODI. Meanwhile, Colin Munro, who is set to make a comeback in this fixture, will be eager to make full use of the opportunity with a strong display against the depleted visitors.
Ross Taylor and Tom Latham are looking in good touch against the Tigers and in case of early breakdown, it'll be up to these two to settle down the innings.
Bowling
Lockie Ferguson was the pick of the bowlers in the previous game with three wickets while Matt Henry and Trent Boult have troubled the visitors in both games. These three are likely to make a major impact in this game as well. Though in case the management decides to rest Boult, then Tim Southee or Santner will get into the playing XI.
Expected Playing XI
Tom Latham (C & W), Henry Nicholls, James Neesham, Colin de Grandhomme, Todd Astle, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult/Tim Southee, Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, and Ross Taylor.
Bangladesh
Bangladesh learned nothing from their mistakes in the series opener and were found wandering in the second game. Though they would like to end it with a win and avoid another drought in the Kiwi Islands.
Batting
Mohammad Mithun has been the only positive for the Tigers in the ongoing series, having hit a fifty in both the matches. The consistent failure of the openers is hurting the visitors badly and they will desperately need a strong outing from their openers, Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das. They will also need Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim to use their expertise and come out with a decent knock in the last ODI.
Bowling
Bangladesh bowlers are found clueless against the daunting Kiwi batters and have not been able to trouble the hosts at all. Their strike bowlers Mashrafe Mortaza and Mehidy Hasan have remained wicketless on this tour, which is making their road tougher. Meanwhile, Mustafizur Rahman dismissed both openers in the previous game to finish with the figures of 2-42 from nine overs.
Expected Playing XI
Mashrafe Mortaza (C), Mustafizur Rahman, Tamim Iqbal, Liton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mohammad Mithun, Mahmudullah, Sabbir Rahman, Mehidy Hasan and Mohammad Saifuddin.
