Pakistan and New Zealand have faced each other six times at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, and the Men in Green have dominated the ledger 4-2.
Both sides first met each other during the semi-final of the inaugural edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in South Africa. Pakistan managed to defeat the BlackCaps by six wickets to book their spot in the summit clash, where they lost to arch-rivals India by five runs in what is one of the greatest T20 of all times.
Two years later, Pakistan once again got the better of the Kiwis, thanks to a magical spell from pacer Umar Gul, who claimed five wickets for just six runs. The former pacer became the first bowler to bag a five-for in the tournament’s history.
New Zealand finally got one over Pakistan a year later when they defended 133 successfully, thanks to brilliant spells from Ian Butler (3/19 in 4 overs) and Kyle Mills (2/33 in 4).
The next two encounters in 2012 and 2016 saw both sides trade a victory each. While Pakistan won by 13 runs in Pallekele in 2012, the Kiwis claimed a 22-run victory in Mohali in 2016. Five years later, Pakistan once got the better of New Zealand as the Babar Azam-led romped home by five wickets in Sharjah.
Their last meeting at the showpiece event took place during the semi-final of the 2022 World Cup, where Pakistan once again came out as victors by seven wickets.
