2023 World Cup top run-getters and wicket-takers after Pakistan vs Afghanistan match (Updated) ft. Ibrahim Zadran and Noor Ahmad
Pakistan and Afghanistan clashed in the 22nd match of the 2023 World Cup on Monday, October 23, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Pakistan brought back Shadab Khan in the playing 11, while Noor Ahmad made his World Cup debut replacing Fazalhaq Farooqi.
The Men in Green collected 56 runs in the first 10 overs and lost no wickets. This changed on the very first delivery of the 11th over as Azmatullah Omarzai dismissed Imam-ul-Haq for just 17 runs off 22 deliveries.
Abdullah Shafique (58) added 54 runs for the second wicket along with Babar Azam before getting dismissed for 58 runs. Mohammad Rizwan was out after scoring eight runs, and Pakistan looked in trouble.
Babar (74) held on to one end and stitched a partnership of 43 runs for the fifth wicket with Shadab Khan. Then, Iftikhar Ahmed and Shadab helped Pakistan cross the 250-run mark. They both scored 40 runs each, and Pakistan posted 282 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 50 overs.
Noor Ahmad was the pick of the bowlers for Afghanistan on his World Cup debut, picking three wickets for 49 runs in 10 overs. This was also his best bowling figures in ODIs. Naveen-ul-Haq took two wickets, while Omarzai and Mohammad Nabi picked one wicket each.
Afghanistan’s openers, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran dominated the Pakistani bowling attack completely. They added a partnership of 130 runs in 21.1 overs. Gurbaz was the first to depart after scoring 65 runs off 53 deliveries.
Zadran continued overpowering the bowling attack and added 60 runs for the second wicket with Rahmat Shah. He missed on a well-deserved century and was dismissed for 87 runs off 113 deliveries. Rahmat (77*) and Hashmatullah Shahidi (48*) helped Afghanistan reach this historic win. They stitched an unbeaten 96-run stand for the third wicket and Afghanistan won the match by eight wickets.

Ibrahim Zadran became the second-highest run-scorer for Afghanistan after today’s knock. He has amassed 173 runs in five outings at an average of 34.60 and a strike rate of 75.54.
