2024 T20 World Cup Points Table: Updated standings after Australia vs England match
An entertaining Group B clash between two arch-rivals Australia and England saw the former clinch a great 36-run victory at the Kennington Oval in Barbados. With this, the Mitchell Marsh-led side has all but sealed their berth in the Super 8s of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.
While none of the Aussie batters even breached the 40-run mark, they still managed to post up 201 runs. David Warner and Travis Head went completely berserk in the powerplay, hammering 70 runs in just five overs. Marcus Stoinis also scored 30 off 17, while Chris Jordan took two wickets.
Chasing 202, England also began on a superb note. Phil Salt (37) and Jos Buttler (42) were in their zones as they made 73 in seven overs. However, once Adam Zampa came to the attack, the match turned upside down as Australia choked England's middle-order to record a handsome win.
Due to this, Australia have remained at the top of the Group B points table. They defeated Oman in their opening game and now have 4 points with +1.875 NRR.
England, meanwhile, have endured a rocky start to their title defense. First, their match against Scotland was washed out and now they have lost against their arch-nemesis. Placed fourth on the table, England have a negative NRR of 1.800. Their next game is against Oman, who are at rock bottom of the table.
Scotland and Oman to face each other in the next Group B T20 World Cup 2024 match
With England's recent loss to Australia, Group B of the T20 World Cup 2024 has become wide open for every team. While Australia are all but through, the fight remains for the second spot on the table.
In order to give a good account of themselves, Scotland and Oman will go up against each other in Match 20. Scotland have looked quite superb so far, winning their last game against Namibia. A win for Scotland on June 9 will put a huge pressure on the reigning champions.
Oman, meanwhile, looked quite impressive as well in their only fixture against the mighty Australians.
