2024 T20 World Cup Points Table: Updated standings after Bangladesh vs Nepal match
And we finally have the eighth and final nation to qualify for the Super 8 after Bangladesh recorded an emphatic 21-run win over a spirited Nepal side. In a low-scoring thriller in Saint Vincent, Bangladesh pipped the Netherlands in the qualification race.
After being put to bat first, Bangladesh saw early troubles as they lost four wickets for just 30 runs on the board. Shakib Al Hasan somewhat steadied the ship but his mix-up with Mahmudullah saw the latter lose his wicket. None of the Bangladeshi batters ever managed to get past the 20-run mark as they were bundled out for just 107 runs.
Nepal's run chase began horrendously as well. They lost half of their side within the 26-run mark as Tanzim Hasan (4/7) wreaked havoc with the new ball. Then came a rebuilding phase for Nepal when Kushal Malla and Dipendra Singh Airee added 52 runs for the sixth wicket.
However, similar to their case against South Africa, Nepal crumbled near the finishing line as they failed to score the last 29 runs with five wickets in hand.
Mustafizur Rahman bowled an outlandish wicket-maiden penultimate over that swung the game for Bangladesh, who won by 21 runs. With this, the Bangla Tigers ended their Group D standings with 6 points and a net run rate (NRR) of +0.616.
Nepal, meanwhile, had a tournament to look back upon as well, as they gave both Bangladesh and South Africa a run for their money. Their solitary point came when consistent rain in Florida washed out their tie against Sri Lanka.
Nepal are likely to end up last on the table as the Lankans might pip them after their win against the Netherlands.
