"A couple of the boys have been crook" - Travis Head on illness affecting their camp during ENG vs AUS 2024 white-ball series

Australian opener Travis Head has shared that a few players in their camp are ill during their limited-overs series in England. With the fifth and final ODI on Sunday, September 29, set to the series decider, Head said he is hitting the ball well and is determined to end the series on a high.

The Aussies won the first two ODIs, but have allowed England to square the series following a 186-run loss at Lord's. With showers in London reducing the contest to 39 overs, Australia were bowled out for 126 in 24.4 overs as England coasted to a massive victory.

At a presser after the fourth ODI, Head was quoted as saying by The Sydney Morning Herald:

"It would’ve been nice to hit a few more, but I felt like I’m hitting the ball nicely, could just do it for longer. A couple of the boys have been crook and it hasn’t been ideal. Personally, I’m hoping to go out with a bang in a couple of days."

Mitchell Starc, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Hazlewood, and Adam Zampa had succumbed to illness during the ongoing tour.

Meanwhile, Head, who missed the third ODI, got Australia off to a brilliant start at Lord's as he and Mitchell Marsh shared a 68-run opening stand. However, the middle order collapsed in a heap on a pitch that provided considerable seam movement.

With all-rounder Cameron Green set to miss the remaining tour of England, Head expressed disappointment but suggested that recovery should be on track.

"Greeny’s gone home ... I found out as we were getting on the team bus. I’ve got my phone back now and I’ll reach out to him, obviously disappointing for him, but he’ll go home and get things sorted. He’s been through these things before, Cam, it’s disappointing, but he’ll know the way to get back," he said in the same press conference.

Green could miss the limited-overs series at home against Pakistan to be fit for the Test series against India later this year.
