"A decent clap, and a ‘well played'" - Matthew Hayden calls out Team India for not lauding Travis Head's knock on field in BGT 2024-25 2nd Test

Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden took a shot at Team India, observing that not one player congratulated Travis Head on his sensational knock in the second Test in Adelaide. Hayden felt there should have been a congratulate gesture from at least one Indian player.

The South Australian's whirlwind 140 from 141 deliveries proved to be the difference at the Adelaide Oval as he took the attack to the Indian bowlers. With a 157-run lead, the tourists struggled to surpass it and managed to only set 19 runs as target, which the home side gunned down convincingly.

Speaking to Star Sports, here's what the Queenslander stated:

"For someone who has played as magnificently as Travis Head did, there should be a moment of humility from the opposition side to say well played rather than the send-off. I don't expect that from the fast bowler, because he is pumped up full of gas and energy. But from the rest of the field, there should be a movement towards the batter, a decent clap, and a ‘well played.'"

With Mohammed Siraj dismissing the left-hander after hitting a six, the right-arm pacer was fired up and the duo had a verbal altercation. Both Siraj and Head also explained their versions later.

Reflecting on the spat between Siraj and Head, Hayden suggested that it should be left behind in the Adelaide Test instead of carrying it to the remainder of the series.

The 53-year-old added:

"There is no need to take further action on that. It was an incident that neither party really enjoyed. I don't think the cricket public enjoys that sort of reaction. He has bowled a wonderful ball, let's not forget that. An innings that was absolutely superb, it was a really significant moment. The removal of Travis Head."

Australia and India will resume their battle in the third Test at the Gabba in Brisbane, beginning on December 14.
