"A senior player like Mushfiqur Rahim's number was in his pocket" - Aakash Chopra lauds Jasprit Bumrah's performances in IND vs BAN 2024 Test series

Aakash Chopra has praised Jasprit Bumrah's performances in the recently concluded Test series between India and Bangladesh. He pointed out that the pacer got the better of an experienced player like Mushfiqur Rahim in virtually every innings.

India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets in Kanpur on Tuesday, October 1, to seal a 2-0 win in the two-match series. Bumrah picked up 11 wickets in the series, including three each in both innings of the Kanpur Test.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra noted that the series will be remembered for India's continued domination at home and their historic win in Kanpur. He chose Bumrah's bowling as the third reason to remember the series.

"The third biggest reason will be Jasprit Bumrah - what a bowler. He used to play very few matches at home but now he has started doing that. Since three fast bowlers have started playing now, you feel these are even conditions, but they aren't," he said (3:45).
"Catches were going to the slips on the Kanpur pitch. It was a dead pitch and the balls were keeping low. He hit people's stumps while they were leaving deliveries. A senior player like Mushfiqur Rahim's number was in his pocket," the former India opener added.

Chopra pointed out that Bumrah delivered game-changing spells whenever required.

"He did this job against England as well. They were good batting surfaces. If you see Kanpur in particular and Chennai's second innings, what a player he is. He sets up the game when you feel you need a game-changer," he observed.

Bumrah had Mushfiqur caught by KL Rahul at second slip in the first innings of the first Test in Chennai. He castled the diminutive batter in both innings of the Kanpur Test.

In the same video, Aakash Chopra noted that Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja were the chief architects of India's series win with the ball.

"You will have to again remember this series for Jasprit Bumrah because if (Ravichandran) Ashwin picked up 11 wickets, Bumrah also took 11, and Jaddu (Ravindra Jadeja) took nine. The three of them divided the wickets among them. They have picked up 31 wickets," he said (4:40).

Ashwin was chosen ahead of Bumrah as the Player of the Series. Apart from his 11-wicket series haul, the spin-bowling all-rounder scored a match-defining century in India's first innings in Chennai.
