"A very, very good call from the selectors"- Fans react to Ravindra Jadeja's exclusion from Indian ODI squad for Sri Lankan tour

The much-awaited Indian ODI squad for the upcoming Sri Lankan tour was finally announced on Thursday, July 18. Among a few surprises, the one that caught fans' attention was Ravindra Jadeja's exclusion from the 15-member roster as seen in a Cricbuzz report.

Jadeja last played ODIs for India as recently as the World Cup last year and picked up an impressive 16 wickets at an economy of 4.25 in 11 outings. However, Jadeja's strike rate with the bat has been declining in ODIs, with the number at a lowly 75 in 2023.

The star all-rounder was not part of the Indian side for the lone ODI series in South Africa they played after the 2023 World Cup. There is no confirmation on whether Jadeja has been rested or dropped from the ODI squad for the Sri Lanka tour that starts on July 27.

Yet, fans on Twitter have already begun asking questions about this being the end of the road in white-ball cricket for him.

Here are some of the best reactions:

"Just as same, if he's been dropped, a very, very good call from the selectors to move on from Jadeja in ODIs. It had been due. With Jadeja's powerhitting offering no assurance and his bowling not making up for it, it was imminent really that they would give No.8 a good hard look."

The reactions continued to flow in for Jadeja's exclusion from the ODI squad with one fan saying:

"So Ravindra Jadeja is out from One day squad too. Feeling bad for him. He is currently going with such a bad time."
"Finally we moved on Ravindra Jadeja from white ball cricket . It is upto Washington sundar and axar patel to grab that number 7 slot," said a fan.
"finally no jadeja in white ball," a fan tweeted.

Ravindra Jadeja retired from T20Is after the 2024 T20 World Cup

Ravindra Jadeja recently announced his T20I retirement a day after India's 2024 T20 World Cup triumph.

While the team went through the tournament unbeaten, the 35-year-old struggled for form. Jadeja picked up the lone wicket at a dismal average of 106 in eight games. He also scored only 35 runs at an average of 11.66.

Should this be the end of the road for Jadeja in white-ball cricket, he would have played 197 ODIs and 74 T20Is for India. He has scored over 3,200 runs across the two formats with 274 wickets.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav will lead the Indian ODI and T20 squads in the Sri Lanka tour. The first of three T20Is begins in Pallekele on July 27, followed by the three-ODI series, starting August 2.
