“A waste and always injured” – Jofra Archer shares cryptic post ahead of ENG vs SL Test series

England’s ace pacer Jofra Archer has shared a cryptic post on social media ahead of the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. The reaction comes weeks after he was ignored in England’s squad for the three Tests. The hosts suffered a huge setback as skipper and all-rounder Ben Stokes was ruled out of the Test series but the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) didn’t include any replacement.

On Wednesday, Archer wrote on X:

“A waste and always injured.”

Fans came up with mixed reactions on the micro-blogging platform. One user wrote:

“R u talking about urself??”

Another user wrote:

"Stay strong Jofra."

A third user added:

"Great Bowler but Fitness Issues."

Notably, Jofra Archer has missed the majority of Tests after his finger injury caused by a fishtank mishap in 2021. The Barbados-born player has represented England in only 13 Tests, picking up 42 wickets. Archer, however, recently represented England at the 2024 T20 World Cup.

“It’s a slow process to get him back for all forms” – Rob Key on Jofra Archer's future

ECB’s managing director Rob Key recently said England will not rush Jofra Archer across formats. Key added that the speedster will get used to white-ball formats before returning to Tests. He recently told Sky Sports (via Yahoo) in April this year:

“The whole plan with Jofra is he’s going to play white-ball cricket for this summer and going into the winter. Then hopefully next summer, when we play India and then onto the Ashes, we get him back for Test cricket. It’s a slow process to get him back for all forms.
“He’ll hopefully play the Pakistan series, but it’s always fingers-crossed at the moment with Jofra. What we’re going to do is take it slower (rather) than trying to go too quickly so that we get him back for not just a short period but we get him for a long period,” he added.

Archer recently played five matches, picking up as many wickets for the Southern Brave in The Hundred. Following the tournament, he might next be seen in action against Australia for three T20Is and a five-match ODI series in September.
