"A wicketkeeper is a better decision-maker" - Aleem Dar explains why Sarfaraz Ahmed was a better captain than Babar Azam and Misbah-ul-Haq

Aleem Dar has opined that Sarfaraz Ahmed was a better captain for Pakistan than current skipper Babar Azam and former captain Misbah-ul-Haq. Dar feels that Ahmed could read the game better as he also kept the wickets for the team.

Sarfaraz Ahmed captained Pakistan in 12 Tests, 48 ODIs and 37 T20Is. He was quite successful in white-ball cricket as Pakistan recorded 29 T20I wins and suffered only eight defeats in the shortest format of the game under his captaincy. Besides, Sarfaraz also led his nation to the ICC Champions Trophy title in 2017.

Speaking with a local news channel, Aleem Dar gave his views on Pakistan's three captains, saying:

“I believe every one of them had different qualities but if someone had superior game awareness and better captaincy skills then it was Sarfaraz."
According to Aleem Dar, Sarfaraz Ahmed stands above the likes of Misbah ul Haq, Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Hafeez, and Babar Azam as the most accomplished captain for Pakistan

“I think a wicketkeeper is a better decision-maker because he is well aware of what the bowler is bowling and that is why I think it is very important that a wicketkeeper should be the captain,” Dar continued.

Sarfaraz Ahmed recently returned to Pakistan's Test team

After being dropped from the team due to inconsistent batting performances and Mohammad Rizwan's rise, Sarfaraz Ahmed received a recall to the Pakistan Test squad late last year. He made his return to Test cricket in a match against New Zealand at the National Stadium.

Ahmed scored 86 & 53 in his first Test for Pakistan since 2019. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter continued his fine form in the second Test of the series and scored 78 & 118 to give his team an upper hand in the Test.

With Pakistan set to play some tough series in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle, they will expect that Sarfaraz continues his top form in the new edition of the World Test Championship.
