Afghanistan appoint Dwayne Bravo as bowling consultant for 2024 T20 World Cup

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has appointed former West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo as their bowling consultant for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and U.S.A., starting June 1. Bravo will join the side during the preparatory camp ahead of the showpiece event.

Bravo was a vital cog in West Indies' two T20 World Cup triumphs in 2012 and 2016. Bravo remains the leading wicket-taker in T20s with 625 scalps at an average of 24.29 and an economy of 8.24 in 573 games. Bravo also picked up 78 wickets in his T20I career.

Renowned for his death-bowling skills, the champion cricketer has been part of title-winning teams in nearly every T20 league around the globe.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan last played in a three-match T20I series against Ireland and won 2-1. Their World Cup campaign will begin with two warm-up matches against Oman and Scotland on May 29 and May 31, respectively.

Afghanistan's 2024 T20 World Cup endeavor will start against Uganda in Guyana on June 4. They will be part of Group C with Uganda, New Zealand, West Indies, and Papua New Guinea as the other four teams.

Ace leg-spinner Rashid Khan was named the captain of the 15-member squad recently announced for the upcoming edition.

The Afghans went winless in the previous T20 World Cup in 2022 despite impressing in spurts, losing three out of five games with two No-Results.

Dwayne Bravo has been CSK's bowling coach since IPL 2023

After representing the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) from 2011 to 2015 and again from 2018 to 2022, Dwayne Bravo transitioned into becoming the franchise's bowling coach in last year's IPL.

The 40-year-old helped CSK win their fifth IPL title last year and performed the same role in the 2024 season. However, the Men in Yellow could not replicate last year's heroics and were eliminated from playoff contention after losing to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on May 18.

During his playing days, Bravo was integral to CSK's 2011, 2018, and 2021 title runs before his triumph as bowling coach last season. The West Indian is still the third leading wicket-taker in IPL history with 183 scalps in 161 games.

Dwayne Bravo won the Purple Cap in 2013 and is CSK's all-time leading wicket-taker with 154 scalps in 130 matches.
