"Ajinkya kept me calm at the other end" - Peter Handscomb on batting with Rahane

Leicestershire Foxes batter Peter Handscomb has opened up on his experience of sharing the crease with star Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane. The duo recently put together a match-winning 146-run partnership during their 10-run win over Sussex in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.

Riding on Handscomb's excellent 119 off 80 deliveries and half-centuries from Rahane, Ian Holland, and Sam Budinger, Leicestershire piled on 363/7 in 50 overs. After a great start from their openers, the Foxes lost a few quick wickets before Rahane and Handscomb bailed the team out of choppy waters. They timed the partnership to perfection to put the team in the ascendancy.

Talking about his experience of batting alongside Rahane, Peter Handscomb told BBC Radio (via Leicestershire Foxes' X account):

"Ajinkya kept me calm at the other end. We knew we were able to launch at the back end and we scored over 100 runs together. It was beautiful to bat with him."

In response, Sussex gave a good account of themselves. Opener Tom Haines' magnificent hundred, coupled with Tom Clark and skipper John Simpson's half-centuries, kept the team in the hunt. However, Leicestershire kept their nerve to walk away with their third win in four games.

They are currently placed fourth in Group B with six points, while Glamorgan are on top of the pile with five wins from as many matches.
