Alzarri Joseph dismisses Ben Stokes to complete 100th Test scalps on Day 2 of 3rd ENG vs WI Test
Ben Stokes holed out to Kraigg Brathwaite at square leg after playing an anchoring knock as England lost another wicket on Day 2 of this Test match. He became Alzarri Joseph's 100th Test wicket.
The English captain came out to the middle after England found themselves 54/5. Stokes walked out to the middle and had a sedate start, watching a few deliveries away and not going all out from the first delivery. He put aside his poor form and played every ball to his merit. Coming in to bat at number 7, he stitched a handy 115-run partnership with Joe Root.
He got to his half-century, his first this summer and got there in quick time. Stokes looked to up the ante and go for the big hit, but was deceived by a bumper from Alzarri Joseph. The southpaw looked to go for the big hit, got a thick edge on that one and handed Kraigg Brathwaite at square leg an easy chance to hold onto.
Alzarri Joseph has become the 24th bowler from West Indies to pick up 100 wickets in a Test match.
England continue to wade through muddy waters as West Indies go ahead on Day 2
England were the dominant side yesterday after they caught the visitors off guard and had them reeling at 115/5 at one stage during the day. Former Test skipper Jason Holder and Joshua da Silva joined forces and pulled the Men in Maroon out of trouble, stitching a 109-run partnership.
Both batters eventually lost their wickets as the session progressed, but a lower-order resistance ensured that West Indies finished on 282/10.
England walked out to bat towards the end of the day and were met with shock as West Indies came all guns blazing with the ball in hand. They got the early wickets of Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett and night watchman Mark Wood in a space of 12 deliveries, with the hosts finishing the day on 38/3.
They continued batting through the day, but star batter Joe Root and skipper Ben Stokes added some runs and brought stability to their rocking ship. At the time of writing this article, England are on 236/7 after 50 overs, trailing by 46 runs.
