Glenn Maxwell was last seen in action for the Washington Freedom in the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024. The all-rounder was not in great form in the league stages but stepped up in the finals with a brisk half-century in Qualifier 1 and a 22-ball-40 in the final. He bowled a tight spell in the finals, conceding 14 runs and picking up one wicket in two overs as the Washington Freedom won their maiden MLC title.

The 35-year-old was also a part of the Australian side for the T20 World Cup. He had a dismal outing with the bat, scoring 132 runs in seven innings at an average of 26.40. He also played a crucial knock against Afghanistan, scoring 59 runs as Australia went down by 21 runs. With the ball, the Victorian returned with three wickets in the campaign as Australia crashed out in the Super Eight stage of the tournament.

Maxwell has been left out of the T20 side against England, but has been selected for the ODIs that succeed later. The ODI series against England commences on Thursday, September 19 and will be played at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
