Afghanistan beat Bangladesh by eight runs (via the DLS method) in their final Super 8 match of the 2024 T20 World Cup at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St Vincent, on Monday, June 24. The Afghans finished second in Group 1 of the Super 8 and qualified for the semifinals with India from the group.

After opting to bat first, Afghanistan could only reach a modest total of 115/5 in 20 overs on a sluggish surface. Rahmanullah Gurbaz top-scored for them with a sedate knock of 43 (55), while Rashid Khan finished the innings well with a cameo of 19* (10). Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain continued to impress by picking up three wickets for Bangladesh with the ball.

"It's something like a dream for us as a team, making the semi-finals!"- Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan after win vs Bangladesh in 2024 T20 World Cup

At the post-match presentation, Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan reflected on the memorable win and said:

"It's something like a dream for us as a team, making the semi-finals! The belief started to come when we beat New Zealand. I think the only person who had us in his last four for the tournament was Brian Lara, so, we had a chat among ourselves that we can't let his prediction go wrong! We stayed at the crease with bat in hand, we knew it wasn't an easy pitch to bat on, so the idea was to bat the overs and get as many runs as we can."
"We were missing the quality in the fast bowling before, but today, our attack is more complete. It's not that they are genuinely fast, but the improvements are definitely there. Glad to be in the semi-finals now, and I'm sure people back home are celebrating!" Rashid added.

Afghanistan will square off against South Africa in the first semi-final of the 2024 T20 World Cup on June 26 at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad.
