Andre Russell smashes a 107-meter six in LAKR vs SFU clash in MLC 2024

Los Angeles Knight Riders' (LAKR) Andre Russell smashed a monstrous 107-meter six off Haris Rauf against the San Francisco Unicorns (SFU) in the 2024 Major League Cricket (MLC). Russell scored an unbeaten 40 off 25 deliveries to propel his side to a competitive score at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Sunday, July 7.

The Caribbean all-rounder came into bat with the score reading 96-5 in the 13th over. He got to work right away by hitting a boundary off Liam Plunkett in the third delivery of his innings. He led the charge in the death overs for the side and was up against Haris Rauf in the final over.

The Pakistani pacer began on a positive note by securing two dot balls before Russell latched onto a delivery on a shortish length to the right of long on for a mammoth six. Replays later showed that the ball traveled 107 meters, leaving his teammates and the spectators in awe. Have a look at the stroke right here at the 1:00 mark.

Russell's exploits led to him being the top-scorer for his side in the innings as LAKR put up 165-6 on the board. The all-rounder has been in excellent touch lately, with his recent heroics witnessed in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) and the 2024 T20 World Cup.

At the halfway mark, LAKR's total seemed respectable, considering the two-paced surface on offer. However, SFU managed to make a mockery of it with their brute hitting in the run chase.

Despite dismissing Jake Fraser-McGurk early, LAKR could not contain the pair of Finn Allen and Matt Short as they put up 116 runs for the second wicket in quick time. Andre Russell was brought into the attack inside the powerplay itself but was hit for 17 runs, with Finn Allen smashing three consecutive boundaries to close out the over.

LAKR had won their opening clash against the Texas Super Kings, where Russell axed his own stumps to be adjudged hit-wicket. He scored 10 runs in that clash while conceding 25 runs with the ball.
